THAT OLD FRIEND OF HAWAII HAS PASSED.
The Hon. Godfrey Rhode (Kapena Roke), who served as President during a three Legislative Sessions during King Kalakaua’s time, died at his residence on Nuuanu Street, at 1?? a. m. in the morning on Wednesday, because of infirmity of that old man.
On this past 8th of March, he lived 82 years on this earth, and it was a bad sickness of the blood that shortened his days in this world.
He was British by birth, and he left his homeland when he was 20 years old, and he wandered about Vancouver [Keomolewa], and the United State of America, and California, and his path headed for Hawaii nei, the land that made him wealthy.
In 1882, when he became 75 years old, he married a woman and had a child that is now living.
There was a funeral over this bodily remains at the Roman Catholic Church and to the cemetery for all times here in this world.
