MANY SHARKS AT HOOPULOA
A traveller to Hoopuloa reported that the shores near Hoopuloa were full of Sharks. There was a submarine [moku luu] that arrived at that place mentioned, and those on board the submarine spoke of the great number of sharks at this place, and when they got here to Hilo, they reported on this thing. Solely because of the great number of sharks, the sea there turned dark because of the sharks, and he counted without turning this way or that, but just one area, he saw 50 sharks. Maybe it is because of the many fish killed by the Lava, the sharks smelled the stench of the dead fish and they came to this bay of Hoopuloa. They saw the emerging smoke at the the ocean point and from on land.
