Cogswell painting of King Kalakaua and E. H. Allen, 1879.

The Haole painter.—We were at Aliiolani Hale this past Tuesday to see first-hand the painting of Mr. Cogswell of the full image of the Alii, the King, and his work was truly skilled. The pictures that he paints are really like the actual living body of the person. We have the most praise for the portrait of Judge E. H. Allen; it looked just like him; the wrinkles on his cheeks, the glasses he is wearing, and all of what he is like. As for the King’s portrait, it is not completely painted.
