William A. Kiha’s English school, 1868.

Examinations for the English School of Kaumakapili.—On the first Friday of the coming month of April, that being the 3rd, the independent English school of Kaumakapili will hold its examinations [hoike] in the church. Therefore, the parents and those who want to go to see the examinations of the school, it will be open to them, for this will perhaps be the first time we will see the examinations of that school. The teacher of that English school is W. A. Kiha.

[The Hawaiian Gazette reports on 5/20/1868 that there are 168 scholars enrolled in that school!]
