BOXING AT THE ORPHEUM

There will be a boxing match of twelve rounds between George “Slim” Gilmore, the slugger of San Francisco, and Jim Hoao, Honolulu’s Hawaiian boy who is skilled at throwing blows; Dick Sullivan will be the referee.

There will be others boxing as well.

  1. Sometimes Hawaiianized foreign words can be tricky, especially if they do not appear in dictionaries. The first thing that would probably come to mind when seeing “opiuma” is opium… But here, it is what the Orpheum Theater was commonly known as.
