Lei Day, 1930.

LEI DAY WILL BE HELD ON THIS COMING MAY 1

Those who desired to once again celebrate lei day have decided to hold it on this coming May 1st, and the place it will be held it on Bishop Street.

The companies of Davies and Alexander & Baldwin will join in to assist in the festivities of the day by opening their office buildings for the many various activities so the program that day can move forward.

It was also decided to close off the street when the announcements are made of those who won prizes, and the government heads of the county gave their approval to block off the street.

  1. You can see how successful Lei Day became, so soon after it had first been staged. Hawaiians actively participated in the event, even though it had been invented by two haole people (Don Blanding and Grace Tower Warren.)
