Napuupahee catches a strange turtle in Kailua, Kona, 1858.

Strange turtles.

O Hae Hawaii:

Aloha oe:—I am sending you some news, and it is for you to widely distribute it.

Napuupahee caught 10 Turtles [Honu] in a single day, and one of the turtles was like this. Its length was five feet, its circumference was 5½ feet. Its shells [una]. It had two; one on one side, and one on the other. Out of the two shells were made combs [kahi] for women, and five dollars was made.
