More on turtle fishing, 1907.

A HAWAIIAN WOMAN CATCHES A TURTLE.

A few days ago, a Hawaiian woman went out to spear squid [octopus] outside of Kalia, but while she was searching, she saw something huge floating on the sea in the shallows, and when she looked good at what that big thing she saw was, she realized that it was a turtle.

When the honu saw the woman, it tried to speed off to the deep water, but because of the shallowness of where it was, it could not get away, and it was caught by the flippers [huihui], but the turtle had a big body and the woman was dragged.

With her might, the woman tried to flip the honu over until she succeeded, and when help arrived from land, the honu was taken back to the village and was made into soup.
