On the 11th of April, the steamship Arabia will arrive in Honolulu filled with new Chinese for Hawaii nei.

On December 20th 1972, a Steamboat under Italian flag called Glennsanox arrived to Honolulu from Macao. Its final destination was Puntarenas Port, in Costa Rica, Central America. On board there were 685 Chinese men. They were taken to work on coffee and sugar cane plantations and in the railroad in Costa Rica. The Steamboat stayed over a week in Honolulu. Some hawaiian (English-language) newspapers published several articles about the ship’s conditions and also about the attempt to escape of two of the Chinese men. How can I search about the possible publication of articles about these events on the Hawaiian-language newspapers?

I did a quick search and there was one article at least in the Hawaiian language newspapers. In Ka Nupepa Kuokoa, 12/28/1872, p. 2. “He Mokuahi Lawe Pake.” It basically states that the Italian ship Glensannox arrived last week Friday with 680 Chinese physical laborers aboard. The ship landed to buy charcoal and food. It did not let the Chinese disembark. The article commented, “Perhaps if they were free Chinese they would have been allowed to disembark.”
