BITS OF NEWS
O Kuokoa; Aloha oe:
Please show this important news: Seen was the dead body of Lonoehu (m) by D. Hoakimoa at 6 o’clock in the evening of Friday, the 9th of August, in the ocean right outside of the crooked harbor of Ulekii [?? ke awa kekee o Ulekii] in Laupahoehoe, and Kahaawilau dove in and got the body.
The parents, sisters, and grandmother and family of this child felt much aloha and regret for him. It is believed that he died when he went to catch Aama crab [pahele i ka maka o ka Aama] and he was covered over by a wave.
This boy was born in Niulii, Kohala on the 12th of July 1876 by Daniel Kahooio and Kalai his wife, and he was 13 years old when he left this life. He had a good husky body, and was strong at physical work, he would go off to make money with the haole and return straight away to his parents. So very prized are children like that. I was a parental figure to that hard working boy, and that is perhaps when the voice of Job came, “It is god who giveth and he who taketh away, glory be the name of Jehovah.”
