WENT TO PICK OPIHI AND POUNDED BY THE SEA AND LOST TO THE SHARKS.
We received word from Kona from aboard the steamship Maunaloa, saying that on Monday, the 8th of this month, a woman named Kahumu went with some other women to gather opihi on the capes of Ninole. While this woman Kahumu was picking opihi, she was pounded by the sea and was lost to the deeps. And after she was lost to the sea, she was snatched by a shark and was eaten up. It is said that this woman was an old kamaaina of Kau.
[Be safe when you go pound opihi!]
