50th ANNIVERSARY STORY¹

Featuring the education of the Hawaiian people from early times up to the present day, an historical pageant of authenticly staged scenes with more than 100 characters climaxed the celebration of the founding of the Kamehameha Schools for Girls.

Three performances were given, on Wednesday, December 6, for students; the others on Friday, December 8, for parents and guests and Saturday, December 9, for alumnae and alumni.

A luau was included in the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary Saturday, December 9, attended by 1300 people; 500 were students and faculty of both schools, while 800 tickets were sold to the alumnae and alumni.

Mr. Charles Dement and Mr. David Awana prepared the food and the students from the school for boys served it under the direction of alumnae committee. After the luau the third performance of the pageant was held.

the special issue of Ka Moi, which was dedicated entirely to fiftieth anniversary news, was published December 8 in addition to the regular schol paper. Under the supervision of Mrs. Sheecha and Miss Dorothy Martin, the upper division girls wrote and edited the special edition.

Miriam Crabbe, senior from the island of Hawaii was a student chairman on the fiftieth anniversary over-all planning committee. Thirteen students from the “Big Isle” appeared in Hawaiian educational pageant. They are Genevieve Bertelmann, Wenonah Bush, Miriam Edgar, Elizabeth Ellis, Alice Ignacio, Mona Kahalewai, Katherine Kekoolani, Pamela McCarthy, Marlene Smith, Winonah Thompson of KSG and George Lindsey, senior, of KSB.
