HE MELE HOOAEAE.

Noho no i Puna ka nani me ka maikai,
He hale kipa ia na ke ala me ke onaona;
Onaona no ka maile me ka hala o Keaau,
Ola ai no ke kupa o Kaniahiku,
Ku mai ka ua nahunau kiekie iluna,
Hookakano no i ka la’i o Wahinekapu,
Huahuai mai na leo awahia o ka makani;
O na kauna olelo a ka Puulena i ka uka.
Kaka-o ka waha o ka ua nahua i ka nahele.
I ka i mai no ua lilo Omaolala ia Panaewa.
Heaha la hoi ka hewa ai na kau hakina,
He poomaunu ia na ka lawai’a i ai a kau i ka laau,
Pau mai la nae i ka makapehu o ka uka,
O ia kini pololi noho nahele o Olaa.
Manao kou ola i ka hakina pua a ka makani,
I koena a ka naulu i ai a haalele;
Ke pane mai la hoaa ke kona waianuhea,
Pelaka u mai ka hauanu a ka waiapo,
O ka’u hana akamai ia o ke konane,
He helu ekahi au ia mea he pulapu i lono oe.
O ka ole no oe he maukauka he ee pakeke,
He kela oe no mua he huki kaula kau hana;
He hana no kou he pulumi oneki no ka papahele,
Owau mai no ka haku ka ona o ia waiwai;
He wahi aloha no ka ua liilii la o Manoa.
