I believe it was Kamehameha’s golden cloak. it is always draped on the throne. that should be the photo yes. I remember seeing it looking through photos in Hawai’i archives so when I saw the description I knew where to look.
in the photo she indeed looks very prominent but I am confused on what was so wrong with such a white dress.
I believe it is this photo https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Liliuokalani_and_throne_of_Kamehameha_III.jpg which I was at one time was told was in the Bishop Museum collection. The cloak is not very visible but it is there.
