Does anyone have ANYTHING on Ida May Pope, the first Principal for the Kamehameha Girls school? She was there from 1894-1914. OR…does anyone have a tutu or other family member that was in the school at that time? I am writing about those first 25 years of the school under Miss Pope.

Aloha Sandee.
Although there seems to be no articles in the currently searchable Hawaiian-Language Newspapers (hopefully much more will be searchable very soon), you should definitely try checking Chronicling America. There seems to be a number of articles about her. Here, for instance, is an early article that includes a good amount of information about her early days as an educator at Kawaiahao Seminary and more! [forth column, under “ARRIVED FRIDAY”]

I pulled just one more article. It is a very important one dealing with the beginning of the Kamehameha School for Girls, and it was also found on Chronicling America.

I can’t believe i’m just seeing this now.
