Kamehameha Song Contest past, 1945.

Kamehameha School for Boys will present its 24 annual song contest on March 4 at the school auditorium with the eight and ninth graders competing in the junior division and the tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade boys in the senior division.

The eighth graders have their choice song “Beautiful Kahana” and the ninth graders choice is “Ka Anoi.” The juniors have selected “Wai Lana” [Wailana] and the tenth grade boys a medley of “Kuu Lei Pikake,” “Lei Awapuhi” and “Roselani.” A medley of “Na Lei O Hawaii” and “Aloha Oe” is the senior choice.

For the senior division the prize song is “Puu Waa Waa” [Puu Waawaa] and for the junior division “Malanae Anu Ka Makani” [Malanai Anu ka Makani].

The classes will be judged ofr pitch and enunciation of words, blend, attach and release, pronounciation, phrasing and interpretation and general effectiveness. Judges also rate the classes on the appropriateness of songs.

Winners of the junior division will be presented the Richard Trent cup which was first awarded in 1927. The senior division will compete for the George Alanson Andrews cup, which was given by the Athletic association of Kamehameha in 1921.
