THE KAWAIAHAO BOARDING SCHOOL.

On the first days of this week, the examination of the students of the girls’ boarding school of Kawaiahao was held in the school. The examinations began and there was a break on Tuesday. There were things for sale prepared by the students, they being decorations and desserts made by the students themselves. It was something they learned outside of book learning. The visitors who saw the work completed by the students had much praise. On Wednesday afternoon, in Kawaiahao church, the closing exercises were held. There were speeches, dialogues, songs, and cheerful physical exercise drills. They were greatly praised and the parents were filled with joy.

The closing of the activities of that afternoon was the joining in the covenant of marriage, of Miss Phoebe Hanuna, a student of the school, with Mr. Lyons K. Kakani; both of them are from the district of Hana, Maui. Rev. H. H. Parker joined them as man and wife, as the whole school sweetly sang the song, “Bring forth the bride.” Our aloha goes to the young newlyweds.

[According to an English account, “Kawaiahao Seminary,” appearing in the PCA, 6/5/1890, p. 3, Princess Liliuokalani was there!]
