English coverage of the marriage of Carrie Nakapuahi and Theophilus Metcalf Rowland, 1898.

ROWLAND—NAKAPUAHI.

A Very Pretty New Year’s Wedding in Puueo.

The marriage of Carrie K. Nakapuahi to Theo. M. Rowland last Sunday evening was a very happy event. Rev. S. L. Desha performed the ceremony using the beautiful service of the Episcopal Church.

The wedding took place at the home of the mother and stepfather of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moore, Puueo, the best man being W. G. Rowland, Jr., brother of the groom; the bridemaid was Annie Umiamaka.

The bride was dressed becomingly in white and presented a beautiful appearance as she stood with her husband under the wedding bell made of the blossoms of the papia tree. The house was artistically decorated throughout with ferns. After congratulations had been extended to Mr. and Mrs. Rowland light refreshments were served to the hundred or more guests present.

Mrs. Rowland was deservedly poplar in society here and is a great favorite. Mr. Rowland is one of the brothers known for their accomodating ways at telephone central. The Herald extends congratulations.

[It is interesting how different the Hawaiian and English coverage of this wedding was.]
