An Adornment for Kaiulani, 1876.

This mele was composed by Her Highness Kapili [Likelike] for her mountain climbing excursion to the famous cliff of Kapela.

HE KAHIKO NO KAIULANI

Kahiko ka nani i Lihau,
Ka lehua puakea i ka uka,
I mohala i welelau pali,
I ka poohiwi kapu o Kapela.

Cho.—Ilaila maua me ia la,
Me kuu aka i ka wehiwehi;
Kookolu i ka mahaiula,
I ke kahiko pali o Kakae.

Rept.—Haina ka puana o kuu liko,
O ka wekiu lani i ke kapu.

Lahilahi ke alo o ia uka,
Kilakila i ke ao ania;
Hookahi pua nani o ka lipo,
I ka onohi wai anuenue.

Cho—Ilaila maua me ia la, &c.

Puia aala i ke onaona,
Luhea i ka wai Iliahi,
Ka nahele kapu o ia Kini,
Malu wehi i ke ana kapoula.

Cho—Ilaila maua me ia la, &c.

Nani wale ka lina o Koiahi,
Lamalama i ka maile laulii;
He moani aala i ka palai,
Ka’u i honi aku i Poponi.
