Important days in June.—June 5, 1870, a large fire in Constantinople [Konatinopela], destroying 7000 houses. June 6, 1869, the girls’ schoolhouse of Makawao was consumed by fire. June 7, 1775, Washington was chosen as Commander-in-Chief. June 9, 1870, Charles Dickens died. June 10, the United States dares to war on Tripoli [Taripoli]. June 11, day of remembrance of Kamehameha I.
