At 1 in the afternoon on the past Thursday [April 12], the King, the Chief, was pleased, along with the alii, to appoint Her Highness, The Alii, the Princess, the Wohi, Lilia Kamakaeha Liliuokalani, as Heir Apparent to the Crown of Hawaii nei, in place of the alii who passed with much regret [William Pitt Leleiohoku]. And this appointment was soon announced all over town with joint acceptance and approval.
